LISBON –New additions are coming to the 2022, Johnny Appleseed Festival which will be held Sept. 17-18 in downtown Lisbon at the Village Square.
The event, hosted by the Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce and now in its 54th year will feature two stages this year for live entertainment. Ten acts which include: New Wave Nation, Giovaun, Blind Colors, Redline Feline, The Lucky Nothings Band, 7% Superstar, Zach Byers, Bill Crawford, Pure Gold, “Tribute Band,” 2021 Appleseed’s Got Talent winner James Byrne and several local acts will be divided between newly-renovated main stage in front of the courthouse and the new Washington Street stage.
The main stage’s $7,000 renovation includes bright apple red paint, a new floor and white powdered signs on the side. Also different for the main stage this year, is the direction. The main stage will be facing down the midway. According to Lindsey Smoot, executive director, Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce, two stages mean twice the entertainment.
For this year’s festival Johnny Appleseed will have a cabin. The replica 1800’s trapper cabin will be set up in Gazebo Square. The cabin has been with the use of any nails. Instead, it was constructed using the dovetail method and wooden pins and assembled like giant Lincoln Logs, Smoot said. It is fully decorated with a mini pot belly stove and more. Children attending the festival will be able to go inside and explore the cabin, which will be camped in for the weekend by Johnny Appleseed himself.
Also new this year is the ability to scan a QR code and bring up the mobile website which includes the stage schedule and information on the different contest.
“I tried to make it as user-friendly as possible this year,” Smoot said.
The Ferris wheel will also return to the festival.
For the children there will be free inflatable axe throwing, The Little Roaming Railroad for $3 a ride, free games and a basketball throwing game for $1, where every child will win a prize.
“I know that not everyone is going to be able to afford the $20 wristbands for the rides,” Smoot said. “We don’t set those prices. The amusement company sets those prices, so I made sure made sure we had something free for the kids.
There will be a kid’s area on both South Market and Washington Streets.
The festival will have approximately 35 food vendors and about 100 artisans and nonprofits set up.
“There is no room for more vendors,” Smoot said. “My festival is bigger this year and I’m still out of room.”
The festival is still in need of $1,200 sponsors for the tower lights and porta johns and $1,000 band sponsors.
